LOCATION - CITY OF MANDURAH.

Mandurah is regarded as one of the most thriving and livable regional cities in Western Australia. It is 72 kms to the south of Perth the capital of Western Australia,

Mandurah derived from the Aboriginal word, "mandja", meaning the "meeting place", has a thriving community of over 50,000 and also attracts a large transient tourist population due to its exceptional coastline of over fifty kilometers and unusual bushland. It has a  maximum temperature range of 17 degrees to 30  in summer and a minimum of 1 to 10 in winter.   It is also the capital of the Peel region and regarded the gateway to the South West. Four national parks - Yalgorup, Peel Regional Park, Creery Island, Channel Island, within its limits - cater  to the tourist trade as well as to its friendly locals.

Hosting a wonderful Australia Day Breakfast on a beautiful warm day on the shores of the Peel Estuary? Now that?s Mandurah Waters Lions Club Lions International was introduced to Mandurah in 1971 and the Lions Club of Mandurah Waters was formed in March 1991.

The Lions Club of Mandurah Waters is blessed to have a membership with experience from all ages.  The club?s youngest member is in there 20?s with the eldest member being in there 80?s.  This wide range of experience lends itself to enable the club to take on a varied degree of projects with ALL members contributing.

Major projects performed annually by the club are the Australia Day Breakfast where the club will feed in excess of 1000 people in 2hrs. Cooking the odd sausage or 5000 for the Alcoa Safety Day   and many other catering events keeps the members busy throughout the year.

Assisting locals in areas such as weeding, rubbish removal. The club has an ongoing commitment to projects such as Children of Courage, Camp Quality, Lions Foundations projects such as Lions Eye Institute, Hearing Dogs, Save Sight, Cancer Foundation, Health Screenings, Lions Mints and Xmas Cakes.

This year, The Lions Club of Mandurah Waters is focusing on the needs not only of the community but also of its own members.  Putting the fun back into the club and allowing members to enjoy their experience of Lions.  The first activity for this year was an in-house debate.  The topic was ?We need to grow more trees.?  Both sides put up an excellent argument however the negative team were victors on the night.  At the end of each meeting a critique is given by a member of the club to encourage proper and informed comment of the meeting and to give experience to members in the art of public speaking.

MANDURAH WATERS LIFER GETS LIFE WITH ONE WOMAN-NO PAROLE EVEN AFTER SIXTY YEARS.

Joe & Sylvia Mason Life Member Joseph Mason and wife Sylvia celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 5th.  Joe and Sylvia were married in Caboolture, Queensland in 1943.  Joe has been a part of the family of Lions for many years, spending some time as a paid employee travelling throughout Australia and overseas spreading the good word of Lions.  Joe was instrumental in forming many clubs throughout this country. The Lions club of Mandurah Waters celebrated the event with an afternoon tea with the special couple.  Joe and Sylvia can be seen doing the bridal waltz in the photo, at a very similar style that was done 60 years ago.
